Tuesday night’s Democratic primaries in Kentucky and Oregon are unlikely to be huge game changers for either of the presidential hopefuls.
With 61 delegates available in Kentucky, and 74 in Oregon, neither candidate is likely to be able to reach the number of delegates needed for the nomination, tonight. Not counting superdelegates, Hillary Clinton is still just over 600 delegates away from clinching the nomination, with 1,716. Bernie Sanders trails her by just under 200, with 1,433 delegates allotted to him.
Clinton has an advantage in that both states’ primaries are closed to voters who aren’t registered Democrats. FiveThirtyEight points out that Sanders supporters are more likely to be unaffiliated with a political party, meaning, that he loses votes in a closed primary. However, the statistics site also gives Sanders a 15-percentage point advantage in the state, noting its similarities to neighboring Washington, which Sanders swept.
Polls begin closing at 6 p.m. EDT, and we'll be updating here with the expected winners as it becomes clear. Ahead, catch up on the results from contests held so far. And be sure to check back to see which candidate emerges the winner of the day.
